Must Do's and Tips When Installing Barn Wood
DO
think about using barn wood siding to accent walls, ceilings, kitchen islands or other areas that need some interest.

DO
figure out what color or look you want to achieve as there are a number of different barn wood siding options
DO
measure the square footage of the area you want to cover (length in feet x width in feet) and add 10% to 15% extra material for cuts and waste
DO
make sure you have the right tools to complete the job!
Needed: Chop Saw / Drill / Black Drywall Screws / Paint & Paint Roller / Measuring Tape
Note: Our material comes straightlined so you don’t need a table saw. Other suppliers of barn wood siding may not sell processed material.

DO
lay out the wood prior to installation to make sure you are happy with how each board looks before you install the material on the wall or ceiling. Make sure you stagger the joints and use different length boards so that you don’t get an annoying pattern
DO
paint the wall behind the barn wood dark so that the nail holes and knot holes disappear
DO
measure twice before cutting material
DO
make sure not to cover electrical or phone outlets

DO
enjoy your new barn wood wall project and invite friends and family over to ooh and ahh!
TIPS
Always paint the wall or ceiling behind the wood a dark color (we prefer black) so that you don’t see light colors through the holes in the reclaimed wood
We prefer using screws to install barn wood because if you ever want to remove the material it is very straightforward and easy to do! Drywall screws work well because they are dark and disappear into the material. You can certainly use a finish nail and gun if preferred!
Barn wood siding does NOT need to be finished once installed. In fact, it looks better when it is left natural and untouched!
